This beautiful cast iron skillet is made by James Smart Company who operated from the late 1800s to the 1950s. I understand Smart skillets were known for the fact that they achieved a slightly thinner cast iron, while still maintaining the quality. I am not absolutely sure of the age but have seen this mark attributed to 1917.
Measurements: 10-1/8" diameter (11" lip to lip)
Marks and Labels: Stamped Smart on the base, also G in a diamond inside a circle, and Brockville, Ont.
Condition: Very good vintage. I have cleaned it somewhat, removing some of the build up, but have hesitated to go further for fear of scratching the surface. I used oven cleaner and then a fine SOS pad. It will need to be re-rendered because of cleaning.
