This is a very nice Griswold Iron Mountain No. 8 Chicken Fryer. It’s a deep skillet pan with a matching lid perfect for cooking a chicken, roast, stew or any other meal requiring a little extra pan height! Griswold made the Iron Mountain series back in the 1930’s to 1940’s, and they are easily identified by the shape of the handles as well as the style of lettering on the underside. This piece is a #1034 Pan with a #1035B lid. The skillet has a heat ring and self-basting lid, and is in very good condition. And it sits flat! Iron Mountain cooking utensils are very collectible because of their unique style and limited manufacturing run. Griswold Manufacturing was founded in 1865 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Size: No. 8, 10 1/4” diameter at rim with a 9” cook surface Measures approximately 15 3/8” x 11 1/4” x 3” (6” tall including lid) Our cast iron is fully stripped, cleaned, seasoned and ready to use! Depending on the condition of the piece, we use a lye bath to strip the old seasoning off of the pan, and an electrolysis bath to remove rust. Then it is double re-seasoned on the outside with triple seasoning on the cooking surface. We only use grapeseed oil, which provides a wonderful finish for those wishing to avoid animal-based products (vegetarian friendly). Smoother pieces will show a shine on some of the images or appear wet. It will even out with use. This is due to multiple seasonings and the temperature they are seasoned at. It’s important to note that antique cast iron cookware is used, and pieces generally show wear marks such as minor utensil scratches or even tiny pits, which are testament to years of household cooking.
